Purple Boat Parade

Dorchester County is going Purple this September to bring awareness to the dangers of substance abuse and to encourage positive decision making to navigate life’s challenges. Dorchester Goes Purple’s campaign “Awareness Starts at Home” reminds us that home is the heart of our community, and that the community where we live, work and where we play is home to us all. 
To join in support of this initiative, members of our community are encouraged during the month of September to decorate their homes, their businesses, their churches, and their schools with purple lights, banners, flowers – anything purple goes! 
Of course, to many of us in Dorchester County, one of the places we call home is on the water, so on Friday, September 27th (bad weather date of September 29) at dusk, Dorchester Goes Purple will host a Purple Lighted Boat Parade.
The Purple Boat Parade will begin in front of Long Wharf, then heading into the Cambridge Creek, back out past Sailwinds, under the Malkus bridge and then end at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay.
To participate in the parade, boaters are asked to call 410-228-3575 for details to pre-register. 
Also, everyone with a boat, a dock, a home, or a business along the waterfront is encouraged to light up with purple that night and every night in September as part of this initiative and donate to the cause.
