Preserving the History of Silent City Cemetery

The Dorchester County Historical Society will be partnering with the organization, Urban Grid for a special evening presentation. The organization will be soon working towards continual preservation of Silent City Cemetery, which is a historic African American burial ground just outside of Cambridge. For many years it sat in disrepair, and DCHS is looking forward to working with Urban Grid as they begin its upkeep. This February presentation will be free and open to the public, and it will serve as a time to learn about Silent City, to get to know Urban Grid and their work in Dorchester County, and to hear about the goals in place for its ongoing preservation. DCHS in particular will be doing further research and collecting information from the public to add to the documentation on the cemetery within their library.
