Oyster Gardening 101

Pickering Creek educators are excited to introduce you to our new crew of unsung heroes, the Eastern Oyster (Crassostrea viriginica). Oyster gardening provides import nursery habitat as well as filtering the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. We invite you to come learn about our spat growing program, the challenges these bivalves face, and the research methods we use to analyze the success of our oyster nurseries.
