Mid-Bay Island Ecosystem Restoration Project

Progress continues for the Mid-Bay project! Phase 2 construction at Barren Island began in January 2025. Honga River dredging and material placement is expected to begin in late 2026. James Island Phase 1 construction is anticipated to begin in 2026 pending required environmental approvals.
If you have questions or a continued interest in the project, please join us for our upcoming Community Poster Session, November 18, 2025! The Mid-Bay project Delivery and Outreach Teams will be available to answer questions and provide up-to-date information on project funding, contracting opportunities,, construction progress, safety considerations, and restoration activities at Barren and James Islands.
