DIY: Make a Junk Journal

DIY: Make a Junk Journal
Junk journals are handmade books of recycled items such as papers from magazines, brochures, patterned paper, music sheets, envelopes, packaging, brown paper bags, maps, greeting cards, post cards, doilies and much more. Book covers can be made from cereal boxes, old book covers or any hard card boards. Creating a journal is fun, like being a child again! There’s no right or wrong way to go about it and neatness does not count.
Junk journals can be used for a variety of things– they can chronicle special events in your life, keep track of hobbies like gardening, travel or sports. They can also be a space used like a diary, equal parts creativity and deep thoughts. Journals can simply be used to display favorite papers, images, sayings and more.

Since the Dorchester County Historical Society believes strongly in recycling and love folk art, this activity is a perfect match. Two very creative ladies – Shelly Hurley (of Brookview Hope shop) and Shelley Smith – have joined forces to lead these workshops. Due to the anticipated high interest, they are offering two separate classes: one on Tuesday, January 15 from 1—3 pm and one on Wednesday, January 16 from 10 am—12 noon.
