Crossroads Community, Inc. Annual Art Show - True Colors, No Barriers

Crossroads Community, Inc and Corsica River Mental Health Services, Inc are hosting a Mental Health Awareness Art Show, “True Colors: No Barriers”. We are looking for artists in the Eastern Shore community and beyond. Entered artwork will be displayed at the Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College, October 2nd through October 7th, recognizing Mental Health Week. An Artists' reception will follow on October 6th, from 3 to 8 PM.
 
Crossroads Community, Inc is a non-profit organization providing behavioral health rehabilitation to five counties in the mid-shore region. Crossroads offers many recovery activities and programs, including therapeutically expressive art. Executive Director Holly Ireland said, “In recognition of how therapeutic art can be, we have invested funds raised to enrich our recovery community in partnership with the Choptank Tolomato Legacy Project. We are inviting everyone in the community to submit artwork because mental health affects us all.” We are celebrating NAMI’s Mental Health Awareness Week by sharing our communities’ artwork.
 
The artist-in-residence for Crossroads Community, Inc and Executive Director of The Choptank Tolomato Legacy Project, Jimmy Reynolds said “I work with about 60 adults and 15 teens in Dorchester, Queen Anne’s, and Kent Counties.  Over the past four months the artists of Crossroads have produced four murals focused on Eastern Shore maritime history. In addition, the participants worked on skills building through drawing projects, individual painting activities, and sculpture. The Crossroads art experience emphasizes independence and personal vision; my job is to offer technical advice and encouragement as the artists of Crossroads create imagery meaningful to their life experiences.”
 
Artists of all ages are invited to submit work such as paintings, drawings, photography, sculptures, mosaics, poems, and digital art. Prizes will be given to artists voted Best in Show.
