Ceramic Raku Workshop

with visiting artist Brett Thomas at Dorchester Center for the Arts.
Raku firing techniques originated in Japan, during the 16th century. Traditional Raku firing stems from Buddhist influences, particularly those connected to the Japanese tea ceremony. Ceramic Raku bowls were often used in these tea ceremonies, and those who practiced the tradition preferred the simplicity and natural beauty of the ceramic items. Prior to the Raku firing, there will be pottery workshops to attend where you will create your own works of art which will then be bisque fired in preparation for the final Raku firing.
