See traditional oyster dredging sailboats compete in a race on the Choptank River. Skipjack is the Maryland state boat because of its role in the maritime heritage of the Chesapeake Bay. There’s a parade of boats at 9am followed by the race at 10am. Best viewing is from Long Wharf Park, at High and Water Streets in Cambridge, Maryland. The Bay was once home to thousands of skipjacks; today fewer than 20 skipjacks still sail and only two skipjack races survive.
